It’s 3:30 p.m. August is hungry. He’s at the office. He’s got none of his arsenal with him. No bow. No 300 Win Mag Remington, cutom trigger, leopold scope. No 12-gauge auto Browning Gold Trigger. Not even a beebee gun. So, what’s a hungry  hunter to do to find game but use his hands and his basic human instincts. He stakes out the kitchen, rifling through the cabinets. He sees oyster crackers, creamy peanut butter, Nutella, a bowl, a spoon. This hunter knows exactly what to do.

With no furry or gilled creatures to hunt, August has sought out the age-old tradition of beekeeping. Now, he’s hunting bees to keep in his hive.  Swatting and trapping them with nets, Mason jars, and Tupperware.

Nothing ruins your day like a nail in the tire. Much less getting hit by a flying padlock or welding torch. 

   

But until that gets patented, I figured I should just start picking them up by hand. Even if I didn’t run over it today, there’s always tomorrow. And maybe it will save someone the deflating emotion that comes with a flat. Who knows, maybe someone ahead of me is doing the same thing. Anyway, the rules are the object has to be in my direct line of sight. Because if I picked up every piece of debris on my ride in, I’d never get into work. And we’d have to open a new landfill. So here’s a couple months worth. Rich has been adding to it as well. Should be able to build a deck by mid-summer.

The Internet strikes again! In a world where the printed word is torpedoing toward extinction, is it just a matter of time that CDs will be too? Don’t answer that. CD cover design work is awesome. I hope it never dies. In any case, a website that’s trying to kill the CD and doing a pretty good job at it is Lala.com. It’s a listening site that allows you – are you ready for this – to listen to songs and even entire albums before buying. And, you’re never going to believe this, not only can you purchase the song in mp3 form for 89 cents, but it downloads into your iTunes. AND, you can burn that song onto a CD or even share it with a friend. It’s not locked like stupid iTunes purchased songs. It’s shocking, I know.

It’s a great way to discover new music. What you think may be an awesome band (Beirut) could really only have one awesome song (El Zócalo). And you can find out by giving a listen to more than just a :30 excerpt. Let’s home Lala forces iTunes to change their evil ways.

It’s true, Valentines Day is an overrated Hallmark holiday. But, not when there’s actually something good to do. The sweetest block on Colfax – the 3100 block to be exact – is the home of The Shoppe Cupcakes Cereal Design is hosting a Valentines Day soiree at their delicious cafe (if you’ve never been, let this be your reason to go). Plus, the other tres chic, super cool shops Fabric Lab and Plastic Chapel have something cooking up too. And I hear the Roller Dolls will be throwing elbows. Nothing says, “Be Mine,” like a cupcake and some down and dirty roller derby.
